How to "get started" on improving my fitness?

I really want to start working out and getting to the gym and eating healthy so I can really start to get in good shape and look good because right now I'm overweight and I'm just not happy with my body. I keep telling myself about how I'll start working out and going to the gym and eating right and whatnot but every time I just find myself saying "whatever, I'll start tomorrow" or "next week" or whatever, and before I know it I've gone another month or so without even starting. So can anyone give some insight on things I can do to get myself started? I've just had horrible troubles getting started and trying to be consistent.
