What was your mother's reaction to your first period?

I got mine at 11 whilst I was at school (luckily I had a pad spare pad in my bag so used that). My mum wasn't bothered and only told my then 16 year old sister to ask her if she had any spare pads she could lend me until she want the shops to get more for me (this was in 96). I never thought about about it today until my housemate said that her family had a (not big) celebration for her and her sisters and the whole imitated family was told.
